PRISON TO INFLUENCE by #gbeduPoet

Coming from the backstage of Depression
And performing in well-litted global stages,
Giving joy to the world with Ungbemgbe,
The product of my months of Depression.
I've come to understand why God
Decided to start His creative process
From the beginning where the earth
Was without form and void.

When I was in University of Uyo,
A certain lecturer, now Prof. Joe Ushie,
Was my friend, my mentor and coach.
He used to say that he wants to go to prison,
Because the weight of being an HOD
Is denying him the solitude of being a writer,
That grave ambience that evokes, invokes
The creator in you to create
Beyond just the Biblical 6 Days.

The mind of a creative, works best
While in prison because, it's confinement
Has a way of fine-tuning his writing,
Pruning the impurities of its edges
And crafting and birthing gold
Out of his creative process.

I won't be wrong if I say 
The the Nigerian Prison is a pathway to Fame and Influence.
Nevertheless, don't pray for prison 
Without infecting your mind with strategies:
OBJ followed his objectives like fly
And got buried with the corpse of the Presidency
After his creative process in the prison.
Woke Soyinka wrote with everything
That could absorb ink and charcoal
From prison walls to cigarette packs
And left the prison with bestseller manuscripts.
Naira Marley built the Marlian Brand
In the hell of the Nigerian Prison
And came out as the people's choice 
Even when radio stations
Hashtagged his music as taboo.
Zlatan Ibile learnt his lesson about Friends and Goes
And strategically wrote the script of his Blow Story 2
While in the comfort of the Nigerian Prison
And he came out with beautiful madness.
Fela the Prophet of Afrobeat,
The fearless tiger, cooked his legendary soup
While in the Nigerian Prison.
Today, we salivate and lick his legendary soup
On a dailies because his headlines
On our forehead is an Inspiration Torch
Brighter than the intensity of the Olympic Torch.
Sowore is now paying his dues in the Nigerian Prison (detention),
Beaten, embarrassed, maimed, humiliated,
Because his tongue shot bullets his persecutors have shot before;
Now, they label his bullet a crime because the law is in their pocket.
Time will vindicate Sowore to Fame and Influence
And the tongue you thought you can tame,
Will come back to maim and tame you for your evil deeds.

Musicians make music,
The fans make it a hit.
Poets write poetry,
The readers make it a bestseller.
#gbeduPoet makes #gbeduPoetry,
The fans (GPies) make it a hit.
Creators create creations,
The consumers make it the best product.
Filmmakers make movies,
The viewers make it a blockbuster.

If you focus on your Shit.
Soon, the global lens 
Will be focused on you,
Blurring your background story.

What attracted me to Afrima Awards is first, the Afrima Awards Music Business Summit that houses African Talents/Creatives in a particular room to discuss African music: The Past, The Present and the Future. I was stunned by the VIPs I met and the in-depth knowledge I harvested. As someone whose mantra is, "If your hand never clap, at least, make your face show!"
